B. Herry-Priyono, Ph.D. (LSE, Inggeris):NEO-liberalism AND CULTURE

Neo-liberalism are to change our outside-in, from within and from outside. He no longer guncingan, seems still far away. Polarization has occurred between the pro and contra. Alliance-alliance has so. Similarly reactions appear, ranging from resistance to resignation.

Wave of neo-liberalism on the flow gobalisasi, which dimudahkan by tekonologi information, can deliver art to a larger space, but at the same time the law is not necessarily fair and easier for all the arts and culture in general. Arts and culture are in the market to terlempar not necessarily intact, perhaps even in a split-split-packaged commodity packaging. Main idea "freedom" seems to be the center need more investigation. Are all the same freedoms, for example, that the freedom of the one (for example, in the confession) must presuppose the freedom of others (such as freedom of capital)? How does freedom have to be seen in relation to the rights of local culture as a process when dealing with freedom of capital? Is freedom of expression fundamentalnya with the same freedom of the market? What freedom are the same fundamentalnya with freedom berkesenian?

Freedom of multi-interpreter is a paradise for art expression. But market fundamentalism may be delivered only creativity and innovation that behavior in the market that never perfect. So if we want to correct the free market into the arts and social-cultural reproduction be staked? Are the arts and social-cultural reproduction will only get the investment through the free market? Is fundamentalism the market should also mean reduced subsidies on the state of art and cultural activities?

However, the circumstances of globalization which is based on information technology will accelerate the changes, meluberkan limits, and accelerate the exchange of water-pertukar an. How culture is changing in the context and relationship with all of that? How the arts can provide a critical reflection on, so people are not only passive recipients of change, but penentunya, if indeed any changes should occur? How do the arts and cultural strategy for this wave? Are there any institutional strategy that we should develop? Whether this strategy is only the expression (communication) and Economic art? Are there strategies that political actors need to develop the arts and culture? How do people have to appreciate and enjoy the arts in this period? Are we foothold to coax people to enjoy and appreciate art in a market that is materialistic, IM, and this ferment? Level of quality and communication strategies should be developed by the arts can contribute to a maximum of succession established in contemporary culture and the future now?

We want to understand neo-liberalism are more intact, about the history and development of mutakhirnya, form-wujudnya, cautious and cultural consequences, and assess alternative options in the framework of our strategic thinking to continue to maintain and expand the arts and culture. We want to proactively, so that does not terlempar simply to changes in the rotation.
